Plastic Surgery Procedures

When we talk about plastic surgery, most people think of facelifts, implants, breast augmentations, and so on. They are the common types of plastic surgeries. However, surgeons do not always perform these operations for aesthetic purposes. In some cases, patients need these surgeries just to get on with their daily life. So, the term plastic surgery actually has a broader meaning, then most of us realize. But what is plastic surgery exactly?

What is Plastic Surgery?

By definition, we can say that plastic surgery is a surgical speciality that deals with improving a person’s appearance. But it is not limited to that. It also deals with the reconstruction of defected tissues on facial and other areas throughout the body. These defected tissues may be caused due to various illnesses, traumas, or hereditary complications. In short, plastic surgery is the structural restoration of all kinds of defects and deformities on the body for functional and aesthetic purposes.

In these operations, surgeons use healthy tissues that are similar in texture and other characteristics to fix deformities. However, it is not as easy as it sounds. These operations require cutting-edge instruments and expertise on the surgeon’s side. Handling the donor tissue without damaging it and being able to align the tissues precisely can only be mastered with experience.

Many people believe that the word plastic in plastic surgery comes from the commonly used synthetic substance “plastic”. However, it stems from the Greek word plastikos, which means to form or mould. Plastic that we commonly use in all kinds of products in the modern world also got its name from this Greek word.

History of Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgeries date back to ancient times. Archaeological findings and ancient texts show us that practitioners performed these operations in around 600 BCE. These findings also reveal that techniques that these practitioners used were quite advanced. They were able to reconstruct mutilated noses by utilizing tissues grafted from the cheek of the patient.

The techniques practitioners had used in these operations were taken to the next level in the Renaissance. By utilizing advanced tools and implementing new techniques, the practitioners in this period could reconstruct more complex wounds.

The term plastic in this context was first used in the 19th century by a German surgeon named Karl Ferdinand von Gräfe. He somewhat laid the foundations of modern plastic surgery. Being a surgeon during the Napoleonic Wars allowed him to perfect his methods, making him one of the best plastic surgeons of his time.

Types of Plastic Surgery Procedures

As we have mentioned before, patients undergo plastic surgeons for two main reasons: To enhance their appearance or to improve their ability to function.

Cosmetic Surgeries

Cosmetic surgeries focus on enhancing the patient’s appearance. They allow patients to improve their aesthetic appeal. Thanks to the advanced laser technologies, some of these operations, such as hair removal treatments, don’t even require cutting and stitching. Here is a list of various cosmetic surgeries:

Plastic Surgeries in Turkey

If you are considering to have plastic surgery, then you might have heard the popularity of Turkey in this field. Turkey attracts many medical tourists coming from all around the world. Around a million tourists come to Turkey for medical purposes each year, and this number is increasing every year.

Prices for plastic surgeries are an important factor why many people come to Turkey. Compared to the US and EU, these operations cost almost a fraction. But how come the costs are so much lower? Well, the cost of labour is significantly lower in Turkey due to the value of the Turkish Lira. The tourists who are paying with dollars or euros benefit from this a lot.

So, the prices are not lower because of “lower quality” per se. On the contrary, Turkey comes as the second country, after the US, that has the highest number of JCI approved health institutions in the world. These institutions are equipped with cutting-edge instruments that allow surgeons to provide better results.

Speaking of the surgeons, our plastic surgeons hold internationally recognized prestigious medical certificates. With them, you will be in safe hands, that is for sure.

To sum it up, if you are considering undergoing an operation, Turkey is a sensible option for you. Plastic Surgeries in Turkey are quite affordable and provide great results. You can have your operation, visit Turkey’s beautiful natural and historical spots and save some money at the same time.

Plastic Surgery Costs

Giving exact prices in such operations are quite difficult since they change depending on the patient. There are many factors that affect your Plastic Surgery costs, and meanwhile, our surgeons will identify these factors after a consultation.

Factors that Affect the Costs of Plastic Surgeries

The most influential factor for the prices is the number of procedures. Some patients may want to have multiple operations to achieve their desired looks.

For example:

Patients who want breast augmentation usually also get a breast lift procedure as well. This way, they increase the size of their breasts and at the same time, improve their profile.
Mini facelift and neck lift procedures combined are very effective against early signs of ageing. Patients prefer to have both of these procedures.
Tummy tuck with liposuction also provides outstanding results. Together, they help patients to achieve firm and refined body lines.
Patients also prefer to have eyelid surgeries and brow lift procedures together. This helps them get better results in their upper facial region.

Let’s take a look at other factors as well:

  • Which technologies surgeons use during the operation can influence the prices. The more advanced technologies mean higher prices for the operations.
Your surgeon of choice is another factor that could significantly change prices. More experienced, better educated and more skilled surgeon will definitely charge for more.
  • It might seem obvious, but which procedure(s) you want affects the prices too. Some procedures can be significantly more expensive than others.
The clinic where you have your surgery is another important factor.
  • Your insurance may also cover, at least partially, your expenses. However, most insurance policies don’t cover cosmetic surgeries as they are optional procedures.
Consult us if you want more information about Plastic Surgery costs for your specific case. We are confident that our fare-price policy and high-quality service will satisfy you and make you leave our clinic with a huge smile on your face.
Plastic Surgery Results

We have already talked about the importance of the surgeon’s skill in the results. However, there are many factors that influence the Plastic Surgery results. One of these factors is whether you are a good candidate for plastic surgery?

Answering this question can be tricky since each procedure is different, and each patient is distinct. So, we will try to answer this question by providing examples of various procedures and cases.

Rhytidectomy (face/neck lift): Patients who have sagging skin and soft tissues on their faces get better results in these operations. If you have deep wrinkles, jowls, and a double chin, then you are a good candidate.
Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery): Patients who have bags or puffiness around their eyes, and droopy eyelids can get better results in eyelid surgeries.
Rhinoplasty (nose reshaping surgery): You will get better results if you have thin skin, a large nose, and if you are an adult.

Lip augmentation: If you are young and want bigger lips, then you’ll get better results. The same is also true for vice versa, meaning that older patients get better results if they want their lips to be thinner.
Chin implant: Having a large chin will affect your results negatively. If you have a weak chin, then you are in luck.

Cheek implant: If you have advanced sagging around your cheeks, then you’ll get worse results. But if you have flat cheekbones and don’t have too much sagging, this means that you’ll probably achieve your desired looks.

Forehead/brow lift: Having a healthy hairline, thick skin, heavy eyebrows, and some wrinkles on your forehead then you will most likely get good results.
It is important to note that your Plastic Surgery results will not be permanent no matter how good they are at first. As you age your appearance return back to the way it was before the operation. You may want to consider getting additional procedures after 10 years from your initial operation at best.

Plastic Surgery Risks

We should also inform you that there are some risks that come with these surgeries. You should be aware of the Plastic Surgery risks before heading for one of these procedures. We will try to explain some of these risks in order for you to have a better understanding of them.

1- Risk of Catching Infection

Our doctor will prescribe you with the necessary medications and inform you about the post-operative care methods after your operation. You can significantly reduce the risk of infection by regularly taking your medications and strictly following your doctor’s bits of advice. However, there is still a slight risk of catching it. Studies suggest that 2.5% of the patients do experience infection after their operation.

2- Nerve Damage

Some patients may experience numbness and tingling in the area of operation. It is often temporary, but it can be permanent in some cases. This happens more commonly in breast augmentation surgeries. 15% of the women who underwent this operation report that they have experienced permanent changes in nipple sensation.

3- Organ Damage

More “surgical” operations such as liposuction could cause organ damage. Although it is very rare, these damages can be fatal.

Scarring can be a bit problematic since you already undergo these operations to improve your appearance. Studies show that 3.7% of the patients who had tummy tucks experience permanent keloid scars.Do extensive research prior to your operation. Both the institution and the surgeon you pick play a big part in this. Also, another information that we should share is that smokers, older adults and obese people are more likely to experience complications. However, in general, Plastic Surgery risks has a low chance of occurring.

Often people experience a phenomenon called a shock loss. At around two to four weeks after the procedure, the hair on implanted follicles falls off, entirely or partially. This shedding can happen progressively or rapidly. At any rate, this is a natural response our bodies have, and thus, there is nothing to be worried about.

After about six to nine months, most people will have 60% of their implanted grafts grow. Some patients use a popular hair growth medicine called Minoxidil at this phase. Nevertheless, we do not recommend it unless one of our experts advise you to do so.
